  Jamie with Roger the dog

"When it's over, I don't want to wonder
if I have made of my life something particular, and real.

I don't want to find myself sighing and frightened,
or full of argument.

I don't want to end up simply having visited this world. "

-Mary Oliver, "When Death Comes"

    About
My name is Jamie Myxter, and I am the owner of Precision Communications, Inc. You'll find no royal "we" here--when you call, you'll speak with me.

What are my credentials?
I spent a decade working in technical publications--that is, instructional design, training, usability, and technical documentation writing, editing, and production. I've mostly worked in software companies, both large and small. In that time I've become increasingly fascinated by what works and what doesn't work in organizations. I think usability engineering first piqued my interest in learning from end users what works and what doesn't in a product. Now I look for these patterns in human systems.

I hold a Master of Arts in Leadership and Organizational Development from the Leadership Institute of Seattle (LIOS). That's a mouthful. LIOS specializes in systems theory and experiential adult education. If you're unfamiliar with systems theory, have a peek at Donella Meadows' article, PDF Places to Intervene in a System. I also hold a Master of Science in Technical Communication from the University of Washington. My undergraduate degree is in English.

Why Precision Communications?
I used this business name when I founded my company in 2000. As I moved away from technical publications and toward consulting and coaching, I realized that communication is still a critical component of my work. Individuals and groups often have a difficult time with simple communications such as telling the truth, dealing with interpersonal conflict, and giving and receiving candid and constructive feedback.
